John 14:31

No man taketh it from me, but I lay it down of myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This commandment have I received of my Father.

For I have not spoken of myself; but the Father which sent me, he gave me a commandment, what I should say, and what I should speak.

And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. fashion: or habit

But I have a baptism to be baptized with; and how am I straitened till it be accomplished! straitened: or, pained

Who in the days of his flesh, when he had offered up prayers and supplications with strong crying and tears unto him that was able to save him from death, and was heard in that he feared; in that...: or, for his piety Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered;

And he cometh unto the disciples, and findeth them asleep, and saith unto Peter, What, could ye not watch with me one hour?

Jesus saith unto them, My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work.

Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God. author: or, beginner For consider him that endured such contradiction of sinners against himself, lest ye be wearied and faint in your minds.

Wherefore when he cometh into the world, he saith, Sacrifice and offering thou wouldest not, but a body hast thou prepared me: hast...: or, thou hast fitted me In burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin thou hast had no pleasure. Then said I, Lo, I come (in the volume of the book it is written of me,) to do thy will, O God. Above when he said, Sacrifice and offering and burnt offerings and offering for sin thou wouldest not, neither hadst pleasure therein; which are offered by the law; Then said he, Lo, I come to do thy will, O God. He taketh away the first, that he may establish the second.

As the Father hath loved me, so have I loved you: continue ye in my love.

I delight to do thy will, O my God: yea, thy law is within my heart. within...: Heb. in the midst of my bowels

Then said Jesus unto Peter, Put up thy sword into the sheath: the cup which my Father hath given me, shall I not drink it?
