Philemon 1:6

For this cause we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding;

And this I pray, that your love may abound yet more and more in knowledge and in all judgment; judgment: or, sense That ye may approve things that are excellent; that ye may be sincere and without offence till the day of Christ; approve: or, try are...: or, differ Being filled with the fruits of righteousness, which are by Jesus Christ, unto the glory and praise of God.

Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. Wherein ye greatly rejoice, though now for a season, if need be, ye are in heaviness through manifold temptations: That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ: Whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory:

What doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? can faith save him?

Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

And let ours also learn to maintain good works for necessary uses, that they be not unfruitful. maintain...: or, profess honest trades

Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone. alone: Gr. by itself

Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. honest: or, venerable

For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. barren: Gr. idle

Having a good conscience; that, whereas they speak evil of you, as of evildoers, they may be ashamed that falsely accuse your good conversation in Christ.

And thus are the secrets of his heart made manifest; and so falling down on his face he will worship God, and report that God is in you of a truth.

For the administration of this service not only supplieth the want of the saints, but is abundant also by many thanksgivings unto God; Whiles by the experiment of this ministration they glorify God for your professed subjection unto the gospel of Christ, and for your liberal distribution unto them, and unto all men; And by their prayer for you, which long after you for the exceeding grace of God in you.
