Psalms 88:3

Their soul abhorreth all manner of meat; and they draw near unto the gates of death.

And he taketh with him Peter and James and John, and began to be sore amazed, and to be very heavy; And saith unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful unto death: tarry ye here, and watch.

Oh that my grief were throughly weighed, and my calamity laid in the balances together! laid: Heb. lifted up For now it would be heavier than the sand of the sea: therefore my words are swallowed up. my words...: that is, I want words to express my grief For the arrows of the Almighty are within me, the poison whereof drinketh up my spirit: the terrors of God do set themselves in array against me.

They mount up to the heaven, they go down again to the depths: their soul is melted because of trouble.

Yea, his soul draweth near unto the grave, and his life to the destroyers.

Be not far from me; for trouble is near; for there is none to help. none...: Heb. not a helper Many bulls have compassed me: strong bulls of Bashan have beset me round. LORD, why castest thou off my soul? why hidest thou thy face from me? I am afflicted and ready to die from my youth up: while I suffer thy terrors I am distracted.

For the enemy hath persecuted my soul; he hath smitten my life down to the ground; he hath made me to dwell in darkness, as those that have been long dead. Therefore is my spirit overwhelmed within me; my heart within me is desolate.

And he took with him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, and began to be sorrowful and very heavy. And he went a little further, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt. And he cometh unto the disciples, and findeth them asleep, and saith unto Peter, What, could ye not watch with me one hour?

In the day of my trouble I sought the Lord: my sore ran in the night, and ceased not: my soul refused to be comforted. sore: Heb. hand
